Mother Teresa is a name that hardly requires an introduction. She was an angel on earth. She was a Saint.

Mother Teresa, A Divine Soul   Mother Teresa personified peace and love, through her sacred deeds. This compassionate woman had become synonymous with the word 'Mother' to thousands of orphan children who were not unfortunate to have the love of their real mothers. She was the owner of unmatched popularity, only next to Mahatma Gandhi. Despite her growing age, her saintly glow and energy were the things her devotees loved to see.

She was born on August 26, 1910, in Skopje, which is now the capital city of the Republic of Macedonia. She had lost her father at the age of nine. During her childhood, she preferred to read the stories of great missionaries. That hobby made a great impact on her mind. From an early age of her life, she was committed to religious life. She had left her home at the age of 18 and joined the Sisters of Loreto and become a missionary.

Mother Teresa, Mother of Children of India    Since the day Mother Teresa put her first foot in India, She was determined to help poor and downtrodden people. She had come to India in the year of 1948 and adopted her citizenship in India. She had preserved a big corner of her heart for the children who were orphaned at an early age from their birth itself. She founded Missionaries of Charity. She worked in the city of Kolkata (Calcutta).

The awards and recognitions she was given were many in number. But she had kept her work going on without looking at the awards. The Government of India was very quick in recognizing her humanitarian services. She was given the prestigious award of Padma Shri in the year 1962. After that, she continued to figure in the lists giving high awards of national and international importance.

Mother Teresa and Nobel Prize

The Noble Prize Committee acknowledged the services she had done to poor people and orphans and the humanitarian activities she had done during her life. She was given Noble Prize for Peace in the year 1979. By giving this prize to Mother Teresa, the Nobel Prize committee has enhanced the value of the prize itself.

Mother Tresa, A Saint of the Twentieth Century

It is not of much importance whether she is to be declared a Saint by the followers of the Christian religion or not. She was a living Saint. The people of India who have met her in person believe that her presence was divine and her blessings were fruitful. When she left this world for her heavily abode, on September 5, 1997, everyone who knew her had observed a sad day. She was a Mother to all whom she met.
